Rathmines Library are holding two classes (the first for Parents, the second for Parents and children together) in relation to using social media apps in a safe way. The classes take place on Saturday 16th and 23rd May respectively. Places are limited and bookins essential. Please email rathmineslibrary@dublincity.ie to book your place.
The outlined plan for the classes are:

- Talking about the different sites and how they differ and how they work.
- Talk about how to control privacy settings.
- Every site has different ones so will look at a few popular sites.
- Look at the usability of different media.
- Looking at the design and what makes it user friendly
- Why people use sites.
- Looking at the behaviour of each site and motivations for use
- Quiz!
- Does Technology affect behaviour?
- Looking at the many ways technology alters human behaviour
- The dangers but also the positives of social networking
- Evidence of experiences of users – some bad and some good
- Digital Literacy.
- A cause for concern in Ireland – keeping up with change

The Parents with Children / Young People’s Workshop Outline:
Brief outlined plan: this will be somewhat similar to the parent talk, but directed at children / young people. The aim here is for young people to discuss each area that was mentioned previously.

This looks like a really interesting event and of course very relevant for young people and parents who are both surrounded by mobile apps and social media these days.
